Exactly a year after the debut of the sun collection, the Caten twins, with their typical enthusiasm, have followed-up their global success with an intriguing new proposal: the first Dsquared2 glasses collection, with which the designer brand completes its eyewear range.
The range comprises of 19 versatile models, and in keeping with the basic DNA of the brand, brings together eyeglasses suitable for both the younger consumer seeking a striking and unconventional look, and the more sophisticated frames designed for a more mature target all under the Dsquared2 brand.
A balanced mix of originality and Italian sartorial art, translates into the creation of sexy, alternative and extravagant frames where close attention is focused on the details and use of materials. Metal, acetate and plastic are alternated and combined in the 5 models for women, the 9 for men and the 5 unisex models.
There are multiple sources of inspiration, from retro to more contemporary shapes, all revisited in typical Dsquared2 style and interpreted in highly original fashion by the prodigious talents of Dean and Dan.
As such, the preppy style models – the DQ5005 and 5006 – which evoke the clean cut university campus look typical of the designers' home country, Canada, are given a more irreverent aura here with colour contrasts that offset the lively shades of the arms - yellow and orange - and the fronts. The latter can also be personalised with eye-catching logos, written in block capitals, for the younger consumer that wishes to tell the whole world about their love for the Dsquared2 mood.
More attractive, yet at least as rebellious as the teenagers that love to wear them, the DQ5007 and DQ5008 models stand out for their vaguely retro cat’s eye frames, distinctive for the stylish processing of their surfaces and the presence of a metal embellishment in the bridge area. A sense of the vintage also inspires the unisex DQ5017 (chosen as the image for the S/S 2010 campaign), DQ5027 and DQ5015 models, dedicated to those that love to push the boat out in an understated and elegant manner. Entirely in acetate, the first two models come in melange shades and have two little overlapping metal squares at the sides of the frames.
A combination of two materials, meanwhile, the DQ5015 stands out for the acetate top bars fixed to the metal circles with screws for a frame of great character, somewhere between “JFK” and “Falling Down”.
Revisited aviator styles with double bridge for the DQ5011 (men’s) and DQ5016 (unisex) models, which have bulky acetate fronts in black and tortoise shell.
More lively colours, meanwhile, for the DQ5009 and DQ5018 models: the former, for women, has a colourful pattern on the front of the frames thanks to the multilayered acetates. Lively colours are less evident in the DQ5018, where two-tone shades are evident on the black base of the frames.
There is also no shortage of metal models: the DQ5001, DQ5002, DQ5003 and DQ5004 models are minimalist and ultra-light, perfect for youngsters that also want to express their happy-go-lucky natures in their choice of accessories.
Metal, this time in combination with colourful plastic details, also for the men’s DQ5013 and DQ5014 models, where the presence of little inserts at the bridge and on the frame arms catch the eye. With rectangular or teardrop front for a casual or sporty look.
