For Fall 2010, TOM FORD presents twenty five new sunglass and optical frames that epitomize the values at the core of TOM FORD EYEWEAR: refined design, intelligent glamour, and innovative details. “In eyewear, it is the small detailing that expresses the luxury. Customcrafted hinges, unusual color mélanges, or simply the look of empty space around the lenses—these are what make accessories into precious objects,” says Ford.
This season’s sunglass collection includes the rounded Mathias [TF143] and the aviator-shaped Marko [TF144] for men, two new versions of Ford’s famous ‘James Bond’ sunglass design. The effortless masculinity of this retro-sporty, double-bridge shape is given extra attention by pairing cooler-toned metal frames with warmer-toned lenses. For women, the Carla [TF157] and Clémence [TF158] evolve the glamorous, wraparound sunglass frame that is a TOM FORD trademark. Their slim metal frames attach to temples that melt colors together to produce an ultra-feminine effect. Olive fades into beige, grey into pink, and violet into honey - with gradient lenses in grey, green, and brown continuing the softness. The Callae [TF165] and Caithlyn [TF167], reinvent the tortoiseshell look. Strong frame shapes; tubular temples that connect onto the front, and striking new honey/violet and lilac/brown colorways make them standouts. All TOM FORD sunglasses feature lenses of extraordinary quality that almost always include antiglare coating.
The nineteen optical frames express Tom Ford’s commitment to linear, clean design and timeless silhouettes that hint at vintage inspiration. Two injected plastic frames for women, TF5139 and TF5140, feature metal end pieces on the temples with colorways that subtly merge shades: brown and turquoise, maroon and honey. Powerful design details, like the sensual crossed front, graduate from TOM FORD sunglasses into the ophthalmic collection in frame TF 5140.
Three acetate models for women feature metal T’s inset into the temples’ end pieces [TF5141, TF5142, TF5143]. Variations in thickness and shape, as well as options of striated single colors; beautiful, pearled acetate, or bi-color combinations, give these intelligent-looking, elegant frames multiple choices in fit and finish. The TF5144, a metal frame, takes its cue from a now-iconic TOM FORD frame for men [the ‘Peter,’ TF142]. Delicate and lightweight, yet designed with architectural rigor, the crossed front and double bridge have a head-turning impact. A variation is also available with rounded lines [TF5145], for mounting progressive lenses.
Men may choose from a range of richly hued acetate frames that feature clean, metal T’s on the temples. The man with a classical style may select the rounded models, TF5146 or TF5149, or the Kennedy-esque TF5147, while the client seeking an understated update may choose TF5148. It has a modified front profile but maintains the retro-inspired colors. Two more acetate models with a fifties inspiration, the rounded TF5150 and the gently oval TF5151, have a sophisticated authority. Colors get transparent and intriguing, such as the camel/Havana mix or the pairing of transparent-grey front with horn temples [model TF5150].
Metal frames for men this season include two classic silhouettes, TF5152 and TF5143. Their slim, metal front is paired with an injected temple to elegant effect. But metal also gets radically reworked. Taking inspiration from aviator-shaped sunglasses, models TF5154 and TF5155 bend metal into minimal, powerful lines that reflect a clean update of seventies masculinity. A range of colors from semi-matte gunmetal to shiny bronze or gold, makes these new models bold style statements.
Finally, a deeply luxurious frame with a palpable fifties inspiration combines finely crafted metal fronts with precious woods - mahogany, ebony, and rosewood - for the temples, and finishes them with horn-effect acetate tips. Models TF5156 and TF5157 are the ultimate expression of the collection’s ethos. Small details such as expanding metal nose pads and flexible hinges deliver unparalleled fit and comfort. Prestigious materials deliver rarity and quality, while expertly perfected design ensures absolute wearability. TOM FORD EYEWEAR is handmade in Italy by Marcolin.
